Fashion Fête: The Art of Personalization — Rue Madame’s Guangzhou Grand Opening Event

Hong Kong, 12 September 2024 — Founded in 1964, the French footwear brand Jonak has paved its way to success, first among European ladies before reaching far beyond the continent. With over 100 stores worldwide, Jonak has gained a foothold in the fashion industry and is considered an influential leader in women's footwear; a pair of Jonak shoes is essential for every French woman. With support from brand partner Rue Madame Fashion Group, the French label enters Hong Kong with a grand opening at K11 Musea in Tsim Sha Tsui, allowing fans in the region to shop the latest designs and experience the effortless charm of French styling.

The Jonak story began in 1964 in Paris when Marcel and Josette Nakam opened their first shoe boutique in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The couple merged their first names with the family name to create “Jonak.” After the passing of Marcel, the couple’s eldest son, Joseph Nakam, took over the family venture. Jonak’s growth truly accelerated, and soon there was a second branch. Joseph Nakam observed Parisian women and their sense of style to offer collections that closely matched their desires. For Jonak, he conceived a philosophy that balances quality craftsmanship, thoughtful simplicity, inspired creation, and fair prices. Small victories followed, and in the 1990s, the brand soared with the opening of around thirty stores across Paris.

Jonak has been a hallmark of superior craftsmanship and modern design. The founders place great importance on the quality of leather, which is carefully selected and sourced primarily from factories in Europe, including Portugal, Spain, and Italy. Sustainability in the production process is achieved through the active reduction of environmental pollution. The brand respects European shoemaking traditions, overseeing every step from cutting and stitching to sewing, assembling, and finishing; expert craftsmen ensure that all procedures are strictly followed. Jonak offers fashion-forward, quality leather products made in Europe, all marked by a unique sense of innovation without compromising comfort, while exuding an air of Parisian sophistication. Releasing an average of over a hundred new styles each season - ranging from elegant high heels to stylish loafers - Jonak is the go-to option for daily footwear. Whether for formal occasions or casual outings, the versatile styles elevate your look effortlessly.

Today, the founders’ grandchildren continue to enrich and structure Jonak’s DNA. Upon completing their graduate studies in France, Marcel and Lisa honed their business acumen through enriching careers in various parts of the world before joining their father in 2012, giving Jonak a major breakthrough. The brand continues to fulfill its initial promise: an ode to aesthetic lines, distinctive codes, and a united clan encompassing collaborators, staff, and customers. "After our development in the French market, the Hong Kong market naturally emerged as the next step, being a major fashion hub, rapidly expanding, and a true gateway to Asia. This project quickly came to fruition by working hand in hand with Rue Madame Fashion Group, a partner who is a major asset,” Lisa Nakam shares regarding Jonak’s expansion into Hong Kong.

The first Jonak store in Hong Kong is housed inside K11 Musea. The new store stays true to the brand’s signature style, offering warm shopping experiences to maintain a close connection with customers. The interior features a thoughtful selection of noble and natural materials, such as oak wood, metal structures, and natural stone, outlining the beauty of the shoes. Plants, photo frames, and books create a comfortable and personal ambiance reminiscent of a Parisian lifestyle.
